After Cruise Vacation Stay in Miami

We are going for a cruise leaving from Miami sometimes early next year. We are thinking to spend few days in Miami after cruise to take advantage of beaches, nightlife, bars and art. We have never been to Miami area before. Need some information on commute. Is it okey if we do not rent a car? We are flying out from Miami International airport.

Are you comfortable taking a taxi? Because if you are, that's always a good option in a new city that you haven't visited before. There's some walking that works in some areas, but it really depends on what exactly you want.
